At Reclaim Lifestyles, we are passionate about making your personal wellness journey simple, accessible, and enjoyable. No matter where you're starting from, the Restart! app is built to meet you where you are and customize an exercise plan based on your unique preferences, health concerns, and abilities as an aging adult.
We've spent the last two and a half years working on the app's framework, diving deep into the research around physical activity for aging adults, and applying scientifically sound principles to our approach alongside what we've learned through our own personal experiences of beginning or restarting a physical fitness routine later in life. We know what it feels like to be stymied by an injury, or overwhelmed by too much information, or frustrated by impersonal one-size-fits-all solutions. Making a lifestyle change is hard enough without having to overcomplicate it with research rabbit holes, expensive gadgets, and exercises you'd rather not do demonstrated by people at a completely different level of fitness and ability than you.
With Restart!, you don't have to have any prior knowledge before you open the app. You don't need a new wearable, or a degree in physiology, or a gym membership. All you need is a finger and a phone. It really couldn't be simpler. We'll keep the complexity in our court on the backend; you just answer some questions about any pain you're experiencing or injuries or chronic conditions you're working around and then swipe through a curated list of 60 exercises to let us know what you can and can't do (or what you don't want to do—hate burpees? No burpees.). Based on your unique answers during the onboarding process, we provide you with a completely customized plan with exercises that will help you increase strength, balance, and endurance in an approachable format.
60 Exercises, 3-20 Levels of Difficulty
Our exercise library has everything you need and nothing you don't. We've selected 60 exercises that can each be performed between three to twenty levels of difficulty, and all of them can be done in the comfort of your own home using nothing but your own body weight. Our goal is a frictionless experience that empowers you to (re)start incorporating more movement into your life right away. Our exercises and programs are built on the first principles of fitness and based on our continual research on what it means to stay active while aging, ensuring you get a balanced workout protocol based on the newest science that targets all the major muscle groups and improves cardiorespiratory fitness, balance, and flexibility. You don't have to think about what you're going to do: everything is right there in the app for you in an easy-to-follow daily feed.
How Are You Feeling?
The Restart! app includes regular check-ins to ask you how you're feeling. This is both to ensure that the exercises you're working on are working for you from a physical standpoint and that nothing is causing injury, but also to make adjustments based on the natural energy and mood fluctuations we all experience from day to day. Didn't sleep well last night? Okay, then instead of this level of difficulty today, we'll bump it down to an easier one. Feeling crummy, like you might be getting sick? How about a light-intensity walk today instead of a strength-training session?
Restart! can re-adjust your plan at any time to help you stay consistent instead of "falling off the wagon" because you didn't feel like doing your prescribed routine one day and then the next thing you know, you've skipped two weeks of exercise. Instead of worrying about perfect adherence to a routine, we're more interested in keeping you consistently engaged with your physical fitness at any level. Because the research is clear: any movement is better than none.
